CULLMAN – Corey Harbison was sworn in on Wednesday evening at the Cullman County Courthouse after being elected as the Alabama State House Representative for District 12. Before the official business took place, Harbison said, “I appreciate everybody coming. I look forward to being the representative for the next four years.”

Harbison also appreciated the support of his friends and family in attendance, in addition to other new officials present to back him up. He said, “Randall Shedd is here and I think we’re going to work well together. I’m looking forward to working with him and I look forward to working for y’all.” Shedd was sworn in earlier that morning at Wallace State Community College.

Harbison went on to say, “If you have any suggestions on anything I can do to make Cullman a better place, I want you to feel free to reach out to me, and I want to be accessible.” Harbison desires to be an approachable individual and so far, he has represented himself well.

“I just want to thank everybody for their support throughout my campaign. I know I’m not perfect, but I hope that I go down and make y’all proud and make the right decisions that y’all want me to make.” Harbison was clear that he wants to represent his community well, and that he will stand up for the values that Cullman has.

He is looking forward to this new season on both a personal and professional level. “I look forward and I’m always excited about the opportunity to serve other people, and I look forward to getting down to Montgomery and working for the people of District 12.” Harbison is thankful for his experience and success as the mayor of Good Hope and believes this role will help him with his new position. He said, “I was the mayor of Good Hope for six years and I feel like overall, we improved the community. The quality of life is better in Good Hope now than it was when I took office. I look forward to doing that on a bigger scale for a larger number of people.”

Harbison is ready to get to work and start making a difference in Montgomery, but mentioned that there are some obstacles to overcome. “The biggest obstacle that we’re going to face in Montgomery is our budget. I don’t know what the right answer is, but it’s going to take a lot of time to go over the budgets and really sit down and see what we can do.”

Harbison began his political career at a young age and enjoys what he does. “It’s just like any other position. You’re going to have ups and downs and troubles and problems you’re going to face, but then something good will happen or come along and make you feel better about situations.” Harbison’s optimism and desire to succeed should allow the people of Cullman to rest easy. His confidence and past record of success has equipped him for his new position to adequately represent District 12 for the state of Alabama.
