PREP FOOTBALL: Meek falls to Winston County in OT 28-22

DOUBLE SPRINGS, Ala. — Ryker Morgan scored from 10 yard out on Winston County’s first play of overtime to give the Yellow Jackets a thrilling 28-22 overtime win over Meek at Malcolm-Blake Stadium in Double Springs on Friday night.

Meek forced overtime with a Cam Deaver touchdown run and 2-point conversion with 26 seconds left on the clock to make the score 22-22. The Tigers were shut out on their opening possession of overtime, setting up Morgan’s game-winning score.

Morgan finished with 155 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries for the Jackets (1-0). He also completed 4 of 11 passes for 89 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The game was back-and-forth all night. Winston County led 8-0 after a 52-yard pass from Morgan to Eli Edgil and a Morgan 2-point conversion. Meek tied the game later in the first quarter with a David Tidwell 21-yard pass to Matthew Clark followed by a Deaver conversion run.

Both teams scored in the second quarter with Morgan scoring from 1-yard out and adding a conversion while Meek got an 83-yard touchdown pass from Tidwell to Jarrett Benson to make the score 16-14.

Morgan scored on a 21-yard run in the fourth quarter for the 22-14 lead.

For Meek (1-1), Tidwell was 13 of 18 passing for 196 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Benson cuaght three passes for 132 yard and a score.

Clark had two catches for 23 yards and a score and rushed 15 times for 73 yards. The Tigers will be back home next week for their region opener against Brilliant.
