HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The City of Hanceville grew a bit as a result of Thursday night’s city council meeting. The council voted to accept 19.52 acres donated by Lillie Tucker and in a separate ordinance annexed the approximately 17-acre Ward property off of Highway 91.
The 19.52 acres south of the Hanceville fire station was donated to the city by Lillie Tucker. The council passed an ordinance establishing the Larry and Lillie Tucker Arboretum.
The Ward Property, located at 24471 AL Highway 91 in Hanceville, will house DB Technologies, an advanced engineering and manufacturing business. The building on the property currently is undergoing renovations. The Hanceville Planning Commission will meet next week to begin the process of zoning the annexed property.
The council approved the request for a special event license based on the recommendation of the Alcohol Planning Committee to allow alcohol sales at the Hanceville Music Fest scheduled for September 18 featuring Confederate Railroad. The event will be held at Hanceville’s Veterans Memorial Park.
This will be the second concert event to include the sale of beer and alcohol in the City of Hanceville. Mayor Kenneth Nail said before the unanimous approval, “This is not the first time we have done this. We had a great event the year before last before COVID hit. No problems and we had a great police presence there. Everybody behaved and we didn’t have any problems.”
In other business:
The council discussed different ways the city could try to limit the noise and music from events at the Hanceville Civic Center. During the public comment portion, a citizen voiced her concerns regarding the noise levels experienced by the residents. Installing a second set of double doors at the entrance, installing foam to the walls around the stage area and sealing areas around the A/C units are a few remedies they considered.
The City of Hanceville will welcome the Kingsmen and Gold City in concert at the Hanceville Civic Center July 30, 2021. The concert will begin at 5 p.m. and pre-sale tickets can be purchased at City Hall for $10. The day of the concert, tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be August 12 at 5:30 p.m. inside City Hall.
