HANCEVILLE – The brand new Hanceville Farmer’s Market enjoyed its very first day on Friday, April 22. The weather was great and many of Hanceville’s finest came out to purchase delicious homegrown produce. The new farmer’s market is expected to grow significantly throughout the summer.

“We have a few vendors here today and we are expecting more tomorrow,” said owner Diane Nail. “Hopefully the weather will cooperate.”

The Hanceville Farmer's Market has locally-grown fruits, vegetables and meats, as well as arts and crafts. They are open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Between both the Hanceville Farmer’s Market and Cullman Farmers’ Market – Festhalle, local produce is available five days a week- every day except for Sunday and Monday.

“I was at the Farmer’s Market around 9:30 this morning,” said Joann Walls of Hanceville. “I bought some homegrown lettuce and two bell pepper plants. Had to leave so not sure how many farmers came after I left,” she smiled.

RockyCrop Farms was onsite at the Market on Friday. RockyCrop is a small 3-acre farm right there in Hanceville. The owners, Roy and Kelly McNeely, decided to start RockyCrop Farms because they wanted to create a feeling of association for folks who are interested in farming the food they eat and serving it to their families.

“We grow naturally, without pesticides or other harsh chemicals,” said Roy McNeely. “Bringing healthy, farm fresh produce to our community is important to us, so we were very excited to learn that Hanceville now has its own farmer's market,” he smiled.

“Today is opening day and we have enjoyed our time here very much,” he added. “We want to say a special thank you to all who have stopped by our farm stand. Thanks for supporting us, our community and those working to coordinate this market.”

There are plenty of vendor spots available; it’s not too late to get established and enjoy the fun.

“People are welcome to contact me through Facebook or by calling 256-590-9441,” said Nail. “There is an annual application fee of $10 and a $5 weekly usage fee.”
