CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman’s investment in the development of an RV park, the Palomino RV Resort, at the Burrow Farm site on County Road 222 saw a great payoff this Memorial Day weekend.
Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Director Zac Wood shared that the “RV park was at full capacity this holiday weekend. It was such a wonderful thing to see. You had kids on bikes, people fishing, sitting out by their fires, picnic tables, just enjoying being together and outdoors.”
The park boasts 50 RV sites and 10 tent sites, with amenities including basketball and pickleball courts, bathhouse, dog park, fire pits and fireplaces, fishing, game room, general store, golf carts, hiking trails, horseshoes, kayaks and canoes, laundromat, playground, restrooms and a swimming lake.
It has managed to catch the attention of travelers across the country, as CPRST Recreational Development Director Christy Turner explained:
“Renters at the RV park have been from all over. We have had people stay from Alaska, Virginia, New York and places in between. It has been a great way to introduce people to our hometown and a lot of them have told us they will be stopping here to stay with us as they travel again. As a matter of fact, we have already had some repeat campers.”
Slippery Summit opens
Among the biggest draws on Memorial Day weekend was the grand opening of the Palomino’s Slippery Summit Aqua Park, an inflatable playground located in the Palomino’s swimming lake and the largest of its kind in Alabama.
Wood said, “The Slippery Summit Aqua Park had a great opening weekend. The cooler weather gave us a slow start, but we finished strong with a bit over 200 visitors on Sunday and Monday.”
CPRST is still developing certain features of the park.
Said Wood, “We are working on the finishing touches for this first phase of the RV park, and they are coming together nicely. Our glamping (“glamorous camping”) tents will be opening soon, and details will be released in the coming days for an official opening date. We are really excited to have these available. It will be a really cool experience for those staying in them.”
