Funeral services for Marie Anna Godeke, 88, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Cullman First United Methodist Church, Rev. Mitchell Williams officiating with interment in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Cullman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Godeke passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born in Evansville, IN on March 4, 1928 to parents, Bert and Marie Harger. She married Emil in 1948 and became a southern lady in 1967 when the family moved to Cullman, Al. Mrs. Godeke worked at National Screw and Nicholson File before her retirement in 1992. She was active in the UMW and the Wesley S.S. Class, she also volunteered with Hospice of Cullman County, the Good Samaritan Clinic and the Hispanic Ministry of the church. She also received the distinguished Cullman Times Unsung Hero Award in 2012.
Mrs. Godeke is preceded in death by her parents, and her twin sister, Anna Marie Schaperjohn; granddaughter, Brandi Marie Walker.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Emil Godeke; sons, Ken (Robbie) Godeke of Evansville, IN and Randy (Carolyn) Godeke of Jasper, AL; daughter, Sharon (Pell) Walker of Fairhope, AL; sister, Mary Jeanette Schmidt of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Caitlin Cassidy, James Wood, Amy Rigsby, Pellum Walker, Sean Walker, Alex Walker; six great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two very special friends, Dennis and Carol Doty of FL; and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Cullman First United Methodist Church, 320 3rd Ave SE, Cullman, Al 35055.
