ADDISON, Ala. – It was an exciting day in the library of Addison High School as Logan “Baby Shaq” Wilkins signed his letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette, Alabama. The Sun Chiefs are a perennial power in the Alabama junior college ranks.

Wilkins was surrounded by family, coaches and friends as he signed. Logan is only the second Addison Bulldog to ever sign a basketball scholarship to play at the next level. The first was Matt Naylor in 2006 who played at Bevil State.

“I’d like to start by thanking God for giving me the ability and opportunity to follow my dreams,” Wilkins said at the ceremony Monday. “I’d also like to thank my parents and family for always supporting me and especially believing in me. I’d especially like to thank my teammates, Coach Ben Mastin and Coach Warrick Mastin for pushing me and making me the player I am now.”

Logan chose Coastal Alabama for their past success in developing players and sending many on to Division 1 to further their careers. Wilkins was drawn to the Sun Chiefs early in the recruiting process and is looking forward to getting started in a new role with his new team.

“Coastal was my first offer and they have always just felt like home. They have great coaches and have a great program. I’m excited to get started at Coastal,” Wilkins said. “I think they are going to have me play 2 guard and maybe a stretch 3. I think with hard work and effort I can contribute to the team as a freshman. Coach Lanier (Coastal Alabama assistant coach) told me that they are looking for a high IQ player and I think that I fit with what they are looking for.”

Logan’s parents, Tony and Addison volleyball legend Pam Wilkins were alongside their son as he signed. Pam was excited to see her son’s years of hard work pay off with this opportunity.

“Logan has worked so hard for this and I am extremely proud of him.”

Logan leaves Addison has one of the school’s all-time leading scorers with over 2,000 points. He landed on the Winston County all-county team three years in a row, all-area two years in a row and was a 2020 All-State honorable mention selection.

Good luck to one of Addison’s brightest players and a fine young man as well.
