BAILEYTON, Ala.- On what would be Rolfe Burks 117th birthday, the Baileyton Town Council were able to conduct their first council meeting in the new Baileyton Town Hall. Former elected officials were invited and recognized during the meeting. Cullman County Commissioner Kerry Watson was also in attendance.

The town hall is built on the land where Rolfe Burks’, the first mayor of Baileyton, house once stood. Burks’ daughter, Rhonda Van Zandt, was a guest speaker and spoke about her grandparents journey to Baileyton.

Van Zandt said of her father, He had a vision with the people in our community back in the Seventies. They stayed with it. They started it and got a lot of things going. It’s improved over the years and he would be proud of that, and he would be proud of the work you are doing. I just want, on the behalf of my family, to thank you for doing what you have done.”

Baileyton Town Council meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in Baileyton Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
