WEST POINT, Ala.West Point received a great report card for its water treatment plant. The plant’s 2020 report to be submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) was presented to the council Monday night by Grady Parsons, president of Living Water Services.

Parsons said, “The lower the score, the better.  This report states that you have a total of 40 points for the whole year and that score has to do with the age of the treatment plant.” The town’s water treatment plant was built in 1975.

In all the other categories, the scores were zero. Parsons reported, “Its still doing a very good job.”

The council passed a resolution needed to submit the report to ADEM.

The West Point Town Council set the fee for the 2021 Youth Football Season, with the cost remaining at the same price as the previous year of $5 per player. Last year’s season was complicated by Covid, so the council voted to waive the fees owed from last year. Mayor Gerald Schafer pointed out that the cost doesn’t fully cover the cost to the town but said, “That’s just part of helping the community.”

The only concern with allowing the Youth Football program to use the town’s park was those helping to keep the park clean. Mayor Schafer had spoken to the program’s new director Josh Crawford regarding those concerns.

The council also approved renewing the town’s contract with Air Evac to cover West Point residents in the event of needing air evacuation from within Cullman County. The renewal cost $3,594.00.

The West Point Town Council meets every third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the town hall. The public is invited to attend.
