Camp Liberty to host the American Hero Music Festival this month

CULLMAN, Ala. – On April 24, the American Hero Music Festival will kick off a series of concerts at Camp Liberty in Battleground. The concert, organized by The Valkyrie Initiative and hosted by Camp Liberty, will feature a great lineup of musical talent including Black Oak Arkansas, Alena Rae, Dawn Rix, Billy Don Burns and many more.  

The Valkyrie Initiative, based out of Pelham, is a 501(c)(3) that helps veterans and first responders with physical and mental/emotional issues common in those professions. So far, the organization has concerts scheduled in five states, with things starting off in Alabama.  

CEO of The Valkyrie Initiative Sheila Stephens explained, “All proceeds go toward the Valkyrie Initiative’s programs for veterans and first responders and their families. The Initiative provides researchbased, cutting-edge solutions to physical, mental and emotional issues which are often consequences of risk and trauma experiences common to these careers. Solutions for mind/body wellness using online and in-house classes on stress and optimal performance management, nutritional counseling, oxygen therapy, Microcirculation and pain relief treatment can be found at The Valkyrie Initiative.”  

A gala is scheduled for Friday night at Camp Liberty where guests will have the opportunity to hear keynote speaker Billy Howell Jr., Horse Soldier. He was depicted in the movie “12 Strong.” Other speakers will include Dan Robinson, Gold Star father of Heath Robinson. Robinson was a Navy Seal who lost his life in Extortion 17. 

Saturday’s concert will also feature guest speaker Retired Admiral Kent Davis who is also the commissioner of Veteran’s Affairs.  

Tickets for the concert can be purchased online at www.outhousetickets.com for $25. The concert will also have games, vendors, ziplines, shoot houses and much more. Children 12 and under get in free. Artists, including several former combat veterans, scheduled to appear are: Blackbird Anthem, Dee Rock, Mercy Shine, Rowdy Johnson, Kris Rowdy, Billy Don Burns, Michelle Leigh, Dawn Rix and Black Oak Arkansas.
