BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Milo’s Hamburgers is partnering with elementary schools across the state to host Wisdom Week to encourage positive character development among students. The program, Nuggets of Wisdom, coincides with Milo’s recent chicken nugget launch and will reach more than 10,000 Alabama students across 22 participating schools. The Alabama fast-food chain is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

“At Milo’s, we make it our mission to build lasting relationships in each of the communities we serve,” said Milo’s CEO Tom Dekle. “Recognizing the hardships our administrators, teachers and students have faced over the past year, we wanted to develop an engaging program that encourages positive character development skills while also spotlighting teachers who have gone above and beyond for their students during the pandemic.”

In Cullman, Milo’s is partnering with five schools throughout the spring including Hanceville Elementary, East Elementary, Good Hope Primary, Cold Springs Elementary and Sacred Heart Elementary.

The week-long program includes daily 10-minute interactive lessons at the beginning of each class where students learn different “nuggets of wisdom” and how they can apply these simple mantras to their own lives. Each sample phrase comes with a Milo’s twist including “Life is short, stop and smell the nuggets,” “You miss 100% of the nuggets you don’t eat” and “Surround yourself with nuggets, not nuggetivity.”

At the end of the week, the Golden Nugget Award is given to one teacher who exemplifies the principles outlined in the lessons. The winning teacher receives a $100 gift card for school supplies and a nugget party for the class, and each student is given a free five-count nugget coupon for participating.

“Our students have enjoyed Milo’s Wisdom Week and learning to apply important traits like honesty, integrity and courage to their lives through these simple daily lessons,” said Tonya Cupp, principal of Good Hope Primary. During such a difficult year for all of us, this program has been a great reminder that treating each other with respect and integrity is essential to overcome challenging times together. We are thankful for community partners like Milo’s who invest in our teachers and students.”

Milo’s offers a variety of school-based community outreach programs including Student of the Month, Milo’s Art, Milo’s Math, Points for Purpose and more. In March 2020, the Birmingham-based restaurant donated more than 6,500 meals to children through its Alabama Strong initiative at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last November, Milo’s also partnered with Alabama elected officials and local schools to educate students about the importance of voting through its Milo’s Civics campaign leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

“Milo’s rich history began with our founder, Milo, and his belief in providing ‘a little something extra’ to all of his guests,” added Dekle. “As we celebrate 75 years at Milo’s, we’re proud we’ve stayed true to our roots while also continuing to innovate with new products like our chicken nuggets. We look forward to what the next 75 years will bring for Milo’s, our loyal customers and devoted communities.

To celebrate its 75th anniversary on April 16, Milo’s will be hosting an official “Milo’s Birthday Party” at each of its 21 store locations. The celebration will include a special surprise offer for its loyal customers to be announced soon, along with new product samples at select locations.
