CULLMAN, Ala. — Cullman High School has found its new basketball coach. Vincent “Stu” Stuedeman, a recent assistant on Mountain Brook High School’s state championship basketball team, has been hired to lead the boys’ varsity Bearcats as the new head coach.

“Being chosen to lead the Cullman High School boy’s basketball program is a tremendous honor. My wife and I are thrilled to join a community that places immense value on education as well as athletics,” Stuedeman said. “It is beyond inspiring to work alongside high-achievers who pride themselves on being a Cullman Bearcat, and I am truly humbled by their belief in me. I am excited to further build our basketball program into an institution that brings the city both excitement and pride. I cannot wait to get started and to meet as many people as possible.”

Stuedeman has spent the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 seasons as an assistant coach at Mountain Brook. During that time, Mountain Brook won a 6A State Championship and 7A State Championship, and regularly won area and regional tournaments. Stuedeman also brings head coaching experience from a 20-4 run as varsity head coach of Greenville High School, plus a 15-14 stint as Grissom High School’s head varsity coach that saw his team finish as regular season area champs. Stuedeman’s Grissom and Greenville teams both reached the regional semifinals under his leadership.

He also played collegiate basketball at the University of Alabama-Huntsville for two seasons, from 2004-2006. He then moved on to the University of Alabama and served as a student assistant under former Alabama Crimson Tide coach Mark Gottfried. Stuedeman also served as an assistant coach at Spring Hill College and Chipola Junior College.

“Bearcat fans can expect our team to always be hardworking, unselfish, and fearless. We will play to a high standard, night in and night out,” Stuedeman said. “Our brand of basketball will be entertaining and fast-paced. With a drive to excel in all facets of the game, both offensively and defensively, we will tailor our approach and play up our strengths against each opponent. The aim is to not only build a team, but also foster a group of brothers who lay it all on the line for each other, their school, and their community each and every game.”

Cullman High School Principal Kim Hall said Stuedeman represents what the Bearcats are looking for both on, and off, the court to lead the varsity program.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Stuedeman join our team. He brings valuable basketball expertise, knowledge and energy to CHS, and has a clear vision to implement a comprehensive developmental basketball program,” Hall said. “I look forward to working with him and we are so excited about the energy he brings, coming from an elite Mountain Brook program. He brings key experience working in various successful high school and college programs, and coached alongside former Mountain Brook and current Samford University Coach Bucky McMillan.”
