Hanceville prepares for Irish Festival, clean-up week, yard sale weekend

 HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The City of Hanceville at Thursday’s council meeting set the dates for this year’s free clean-up week and yard sale weekend. The free clean-up will run from April 26-30 with the permit-free yard sale weekend April 2324.  

Mayor Kenneth Nail reminded Hanceville residents that all garbage needs to be put out for pick-up prior to 6 a.m. Friday, April 30.  

The council appointed Nail as the City’s voting delegate at the 2021 Alabama League of Municipalities Convention coming up May 12-15.  

Mayor Pro Tem Jim Sawyer said of the convention, “On the 14th, that is the day that the business session takes place. During that business session, we are allowed one person to be a voting designee. 

Two alternates are also required for the convention. The council selected Councilwoman Kim Brown as first alternate and Councilman John Stam as the second alternate.  

The new pavilion project at C.W. Day Park is nearing completion. Nail thanked Hanceville Public Works employees for their hard work and encouraged the community to visit the park.  

This Saturday, March 13, the fourth annual Hanceville Irish Festival will take place in downtown Hanceville. Festival organizer Nolan Bradford gave an update to the council, saying close to 20 vendors are registered with a day of live entertainment planned. The festival will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 

The next council meeting is scheduled for March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Hanceville City Hall.
