HANCEVILLE, Ala. –  An early morning pursuit in Hanceville ended with the arrests of five individuals Thursday.

According to the Hanceville Police Department (HPD), the five suspects were observed breaking and entering into vehicles on the campus of Wallace State Community College around 5 a.m.

A post from the department said officers from the Wallace State Police Department as well as the HPD attempted to intervene, but the suspects fled, resulting in a pursuit down County Road 616 and Golf Course Road. The post said deputies from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit.

“The three law enforcement agencies pursued the suspects until approaching the I-65 intersection, where the suspect vehicle rammed a Hanceville Police unit, and in the process disabled their own vehicle,” said the post.

The HPD said the suspects are “thought to have committed other burglaries in the Hanceville area. Wallace State is heading up the investigation with Hanceville Police assisting.”

Preliminary charges include breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. The HPD said additional charges are expected.

Two of the suspects are juveniles and have been referred to juvenile court. The other three adult suspects were transported to the Cullman County Detention Center.

The adults being held are Danajh Tariq Watkins, 22; Durell Spain, 20; and Jonathan D. Washington, 23, all of Birmingham.
