HANCEVILLE, Ala. – In my 33 years I had never seen a wrestling show in person, until Saturday night. New South Pro Wrestling presented “We Love Pro Wrestling” at Hanceville’s J.C. Arena. One of the wrestlers at the show was none other than former ECW & WWE Superstar, Rhino. The night featured several huge matches, including a title match to end the show. Dump Sanders, the co-owner and promoter for New South Pro Wrestling, kicked off the night with an amazing promo with Derek Neal, and his group that ended up setting the tone for how the show would go.
But first, here is some information about the now Impact Wrestling star. Rhino’s birth name is Terrance Guido Gerin and he was born in Detroit, Michigan on Oct. 7, 1975. Gerin began training on Sept. 24, 1994 at the Can-Am Wrestling School in Windsor, Ontario and he had his first match on March 10, 1995. Rhino signed with ECW and debuted there in 1999. He won the World Television Championship on April 22, 2000 and on Jan. 7, 2001, he won the ECW Championship. He signed with WWE in 2001 and won the Hardcore Title three times in mid-2001. Gerin then signed on with TNA in 2005 and was a part of some amazing feuds and some great matches before hitting the independent circuit in 2011.
Rhino made his return to WWE on July 26, 2016 and partnered with Heath Slater to compete in the Smackdown Tag Team Title Tournament. They wound up defeating The Usos on Sept. 11, 2016 to win the titles, thus granting Slater a contract. They retained the titles at No Mercy and on Dec. 4, 2016. Rhino and Slater’s title reign ended at 84 days at TLC to Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton. In July of 2019, he made his return to TNA and he is currently still with the company.
The match card for New South Pro Wrestling was really deep and the fans, myself included, were on the edge of our seats all night as we all saw some amazing matches. These included an insane “Anything Goes” match between Kevin Ryan and Shean Christopher, Rhino vs. Adam Priest in a great back-and-forth matchup and the New South Heavyweight Championship battle between Neal and Tyler Franks. It was action-packed all night and the tag team matches did not disappoint one bit as there were some funny moments along with some hard-hitting, high-flying action.
With it being my first time watching wrestling live in person, it was an amazing experience and being close to the ring during all of the action made it that much more exciting. I can’t wait to cover the event again sometime. If you haven’t watched New South Pro Wrestling yet, please come out and show your support.
