BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Seven new members named to the Board of Directors of the Alabama Germany Partnership (AGP) include executives from two Cullman industries. The appointments of Dr. Venki Padmanabhan, plant manager of REHAU Automotive and Albert von Pelser, VP of operations (Americas) of Reliance Worldwide Corporation were announced earlier this week by the AGP.
In its February newsletter, the AGP noted, “We are delighted to welcome such a strong group of new board members who will bring diverse expertise and insight to our organization. We look forward to working with the new directors as we continue our mission ‘to develop and support relationships between organizations and individuals in Alabama and Germany.’”
As a nation, Germany is the top foreign industrial investor in Alabama. According to the AGP, more than 80 German companies have facilities or do business in the state. Germany made $61 million in direct industrial investments in Alabama in 2019, and Alabama exports to Germany exceeded $3 billion. German business and industry have invested more than $10 billion and created more than 17,000 jobs in the state in just the last 20 years.
The AGP calls itself “a statewide, non-profit organization, dedicated to the development of the educational, business, cultural, and social relationships among individuals and organizations with ties to both Alabama and Germany.”
