ADDISON – On a chilly but sun-drenched afternoon, the Cold Springs Eagles flew into Addison to take on the Bulldogs.
It did not take the Eagles long to get things started. Levi Harris slapped a single to right field and immediately swiped second to put himself in scoring position. Jakob Ryer smashed a hot shot to third that was handled cleanly, but the Bulldog corner man overthrew his counterpart at first, allowing Ryer to reach and move up to second but more importantly, let Harris cross home plate. The next batter to step in the box was Cody Anderson who reached on a solid single then took second on catcher’s indifference. Blake Harbison was the next to step to the plate. Just like Ryer, Harbison blasted a shot to third and again the Addison third sacker overthrew first base as Ryer and Anderson scampered home to make the score 3-0 after one half inning.
When the Bulldogs finally got their first chance to come to the plate, they were met by the imposing 6-foot, 5-inch frame of right-handed pitcher Josh Freeman. The first batter to face Freeman reached base on an error, but Freeman quickly retired the next three Bulldogs he faced, including a swinging strike on a wicked pitch that bottomed out when it reached the plate.
The one and only run that would cross the plate against Freeman and the Eagles came in the bottom of the third when the Bulldogs scratched across a run due to an error to make the score 3-1.
Cold Springs would blow the game wide open in the top of the fifth. Cayde Elliott and Freeman would both reach base to open the inning and both would come home to score on a one out, two RBI single off the bat of Tyler Rice. Freeman would add an RBI single in the top of the sixth to help secure the win for Cold Springs 6-1 over Addison.
