Hugh Battles Montgomery, Jr., known by most as “Bud,” passed away Jan. 2, 2021. He was born July 20, 1949 in Jackson, Mississippi to Hugh Battles Montgomery, Sr. and Meta Perkins Hightower.
Bud was a true patriot, having served in the Army, Army Reserve, and Army Guard. He retired from military service as a major, after 24 years of service and sacrifice, all of which he counted an honor. Bud’s time in service took him many places in the world, but Bud found a “home” in Holly Pond. He was a firearms expert, and he enjoyed target shooting. Mr. Montgomery also enjoyed camping. But most of all, Bud loved his God and his family. Bud was a member of Crosshaven Church in Hanceville, Alabama, and was an active member as long as his health allowed. He was a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to many.
Mr. Montgomery is preceded in death by his parents Hugh Montgomery, Sr. and Meta; brother George Hightower Montgomery; and sisters Meta Agnes Doran and Alice Montgomery Dorris.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Nichols Montgomery; daughters Amber Shockley and husband Matthew, Erin Kilgo and husband Chris, and Shelby Montgomery and Dalton Hicks; grandchildren Sydney and Cassidy Lister, Emma and Lane Kilgo, and Malyn Shockley; and a host of family and friends.
Mr. Montgomery will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Montevallo Friday, Jan. 8, 2021.
His family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bud’s memory to the ALPHA-1 Foundation at www.alpha1.org.
Holly Pond Funeral Home is honored to serve the Montgomery family and would like to extend our gratitude to the Montgomery family for their many years of service to our nation.
