CULLMAN, Ala. – In its weekly COVID-19 update for the community, Cullman Regional reported Wednesday 83 positive patients, with 21 currently on ventilators. The update said Cullman Regional has reported 107 COVID deaths to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH); 80 of those patients who have died were from Cullman County.

“We are currently at the highest number of COVID positive patients we’ve seen to date. Our numbers continue to increase and our Critical Care is, and has been, over capacity. We have created a secondary ICU in one of our medical surgical units. We have adapted in order to provide care for these patients. Housing these patients outside of the ICU creates several challenges, mostly with staffing as we need more staff to care for the critically ill than we normally do. We continue to hire additional contract nurses to help meet the needs of our patients,” said Cullman Regional Vice President, Marketing Lindsey Dossey. “We are working to care for the patients that need us, but we continue to need help in order to slow the spread of this virus. Our staff is tired, and our community members with family members who are hospitalized are hurting. We need prayers and we need our community to help slow the spread.”

According to the ADPH, Cullman County added 41 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, with 4,942 cases confirmed across the county since the beginning of the pandemic. Of those, 1,065 were confirmed in the last 14 days. Statewide, the ADPH reported 3,234 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, with 52,036 in the last 14 days.

The ADPH also reported a record high 2,813 patients currently hospitalized across the state.
