WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Town Council voted Monday night to amend the Town’s 2020-2021 budget to include the cost of repaving County Road 1141.
The cost for the approximately 2 miles of roadway inside the town limits was $307,273.82. The work was done by Good Hope Contracting. The project was paid for by Rebuild Alabama gas tax funds and the Town’s money market fund, according to Town Clerk Joann Jones. The repaving project went over budget $23,651.82, and the council approved paying that amount to Good Hope Contracting.
The council also passed a resolution changing the wording of the grant for the turn lane project for Dale’s Market. The original wording of the grant said Dale’s would employ 20 people, but the number was reduced to 12.
Mayor Gerald Schafer said of the change to the grant paperwork, “We got $120,000, so we are still alright. They have 12 employees and they allowed $10,000 per employee so it’s just a change in the wording.”
The council also approved a one-time pay adjustment of $1,200 for both of the Town’s full-time employees: the town clerk and the park/maintenance director.
