HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville Civic Center is undergoing a facelift and the City’s Public Works Department was hard at work Tuesday installing new flooring, painting and renovating the kitchen.
Mayor Kenneth Nail was overseeing the work and said he is proud of the ongoing improvements. Future projects will also include painting the building’s exterior. The expanded kitchen area will have new doors and windows as well as a new stove.
“These windows aren’t heat efficient,” Nail pointed out. “It was kind of our goal this year: the flooring, redo the kitchen and paint the outside. We will replace some of the old windows, but we won’t be able to do all of them until later.”
The flooring being installed will cover just over 6,000 square feet.
Said Nail, “We’ve decided to take it all the way to the front door. They started it Monday and it takes a good long while to cut out, so that was part of the slow-go with this thing. We have to do a little bit more floor leveling but it’s going to look great.”
At its last meeting, the Hanceville City Council approved the purchase of accessories for Hanceville Fire and Rescue’s new Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
Assistant Fire Chief Bart Absher explained, “The truck will have organizers in the bed to store medical supplies for medical calls.”
Nail reappointed Rick Cason and Kristi Barnett to the Hanceville Planning Commission; he also appointed Scott Sams to place 2 of the planning commission.
Reappointed to the Hanceville Historic Preservation Commission were Margie Burkart, Delton Blaylock and Norman Boone. There is one vacancy on the commission.
Hanceville City Hall will be closed Nov. 26-27 for Thanksgiving. The next council meeting will be Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m., and a public hearing concerning the Nguyen property rezoning will be held at the beginning of that meeting. The council work session begins at 5.
The Hanceville Civitan Club’s Tree Lighting at Veterans Park is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m., and the 31st annual Cullman County Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning at noon. The parade will leave from Wallace State Community College and travel along U.S. Highway 31 to Hanceville Fire Station No. 1.
