CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Regional on Monday reported 51 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19. This is the third week in a row the hospital has reported a record number of COVID hospitalizations. Last week’s number was 42, and the week prior there were 35 hospitalized. Eight of the now 51 patients are reported to be on ventilators.
“We have 16 ventilators and several other machines that could be converted temporarily. Anticipating an increase in need this fall, we ordered additional ventilators this past spring,” Cullman Regional Vice President, Marketing Lindsey Dossey told The Tribune last week.
Today, Dossey said, “Cullman Regional continues to see an increase in the number of people who require hospitalization for COVID-19. We ask our community to take this seriously and continue to ask everyone to wear masks, socially distance and wash hands. More importantly, if you are sick, we ask that you stay home and away from others. If you have been exposed, you should wait at least five days after the exposure before trying to get tested; therefore, anyone who has been ‘exposed’ should stay home and quarantine from others immediately. Immediate testing after immediate exposure is not accurate and will result in false negatives.
“We ask our community members to please follow simple masking guidelines, social distancing and hand-washing. This isn’t political – this is about saving lives and stopping the spread. Although you may not be that sick, it’s not about you. It’s about protecting those around you who may be more susceptible to severe illness. Please help us stop the spread.”
Countywide, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), 16 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, with 2,781 cases confirmed across the county since the beginning of the pandemic. Of those, 887 were confirmed in just the last 14 days.
Statewide, the ADPH reported 1,154 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, with 24,895 in the last 14 days.
It also reported a total of 1,262 patients currently hospitalized across the state.
Cullman Regional has reported 33 COVID deaths since the start of the pandemic, with 26 of those patients being residents of Cullman County.
