Funeral services for William J. “Bill” Shaver, 86, of Garden City will be held Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home; Trueman Davis officiating. Interment will be in Garden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shaver passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Woodland Village Health Care Center. He was born on September 13, 1929 in Garden City to Fred W. & Stella Kretzschmar Shaver and is preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mary Earle Green Shaver and Betty McCoy Shaver; and a brother, Eric Miles Shaver. He and his brother, Eric, owned Shaver Brothers Grocery in Garden City.
Survivors include: son, William J. Shaver, Jr.; daughter, Cathy (Harold) Smith; two brothers, Fred (Gayle) Shaver of Brooklet, GA. and D.D. (Donnie) Shaver of Tuscaloosa; sister-in-law, Marian Ruth Hill Shaver of Garden City; four grandchildren: Heather (Eric) Smith Sawyer of Brentwood, TN.; Hillary (Heath) Smith Sharpton of Brentwood, TN.; Benjamin J. (Deanna) Shaver of Auburn; and William (Erinn) Shaver of North Carolina; six great grandchildren: Lindley Sharpton; Leighla Sharpton; Emerson Sawyer; Ava Katherine Sawyer; Briar Grace Shaver and Henry Shaver; and special friend, Marlene Edwards.
The family would like to thank Martha Todd, Mary Ann Sams, Julie Sharpton, Woodland Village and Alacare Hospice for the loving and professional care given to our father.
