HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State Community College’s Student Resource Center Tutorial Lab Tutor Training has earned additional recognition by the College Reading & Learning Association’s (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC).
This recognition, which extends for three years, allows Wallace State to issue Advanced Certified Tutor certifications to student tutors who have achieved a minimum number of contact hours, completed additional training, and demonstrated professionalism that includes mastery over the content and skills, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to be an effective tutor.
“We are very proud of the work Wallace State tutors do in helping students succeed. That can be seen in the popularity of our services – we served more than 2,400 students last year – and it is also reflected more broadly in programmatic and student success outcomes and graduation rates. Recognition by CRLA is a further indicator of the outstanding quality of our lab and of our student tutors by this internationally-recognized association that has set the standard for tutoring excellence for many years,” said Lisa Smith, director of Special Populations/Student Resource Center.
Wallace State’s Tutorial Lab earned its initial recognition to grant CRLA certification to tutors in June 2019.
The Wallace State Lab offers free academic tutoring for all students in English, math, multiple sciences, computer science, and freshman orientation, among other subjects. Students can also gain assistance with study habits, reading and writing skills and cover letters and resumes.
