ALEXANDRIA, Ala. – After rallying from a slow start to the season and earning a postseason berth, West Point traveled to Alexandria to take on the Valley Cubs in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Alexandria jumped on top of the Warriors early and never let up to take a 57-20 win and bring an end to West Point’s season.

A pair of touchdown runs, including a 95-yarder, gave the Valley Cubs an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Another scoring run from 10 yards out stretched the lead to 21-0 early in the second, and a touchdown on a long pass made it a 28-0 game going into the locker room at halftime.

Alexandria continued to pull away in the second half, scoring another pair of touchdowns on the ground in the third quarter to take a 42-0 lead. West Point got on the board when Will Cochran connected with Evan Dye for a big gain and Cochran punched one in from 2 yards out to trim the lead to 42-7. The Valley Cubs responded with another score to make it 50-7 in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors weren’t ready to quit.

Cochran found Kobe Bowers down field for a 60-yard touchdown pass that cut the deficit to 50-13 and Carter Thornton added a 2-yard touchdown run of his own, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early lead and West Point’s season came to a close with a 57-20 loss at Alexandria.

The loss gives the Warriors a 4-7 record to finish the season.
