F.G. Manley brought a giant persimmon into the Tribune office this week.
Charles T. Lovvorn, Junior, of Joppa is serving with the United States Navy in the Mediterranean Sea. The destroyer has recently made two rescues at sea.
Miss Ruth Gamble, age 25 was hit by a train near Pensacola, Florida while she was fishing on a railroad trestle. Reverend Otto conducted the funeral services. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Gamble.

Mrs. Cordie Burrow, of Center Hill, spent Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. A.R. Burns.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johnston and LeSabre, of Clanton, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Johnston.
Mr. and Mrs. K.E. Mitchell, of Warrior, spent the weekend visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Davis.
Mrs. Wallace Green and Mrs. Robert Barnett spent Friday in Birmingham.
Jay Quattlebaum left Saturday for Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he will spend eight weeks taking basic training for the Army.
Mrs. W.H. Clapp, Junior and Kathryn were home from the University for the weekend. They were accompanied to Tuscaloosa on Sunday afternoon by Mrs. W.H. Clapp, Senior, W.H. Clapp and Elaine.
Betty Trimble and Joyce Calvert, of Akron, returned home on Monday after spending a week visiting their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Trimble and family in Mobile.
George and James Wakefield, of Columbia are the guests of their grandparents, Doctor and Mrs. George T. Rowe.
Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Mancil Sims and Rex, spent the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Eschol Williams in Montgomery.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Pinion, of Birmingham and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Reid, of Quinton were the guests on Sunday afternoon of Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Quick.
Mrs. E.J. Collier spent Sunday in Birmingham, accompanying Martha Fuque to the University Hospital, where she will undergo surgery this week.
Roderick Plunkett left Tuesday to return to his home in Houston, Texas, after spending several days here to attend the funeral of his brother, Marvin Plunkett.
Mrs. Lou Petrasek, of Birmingham and D.F. Trucks, of Pinson were the guests during the weekend of Mr. and Mrs. C.V. McElroy.
