Remember to embrace the fun of the experience. It is very stressful, but at the same time it is a huge honor to represent your school and community.”

FAIRVIEW – The 2016 Fairview High School Fair Queen Pageant took place on Friday night, March 11, and Miss Rebecca Overton took home the crown. Other contestants were Grace Martin, August Stancil, Morgan Wilson and McKenna Chambers. Stancil was the 1st Alternate and Chambers was named 2nd Alternate and Talent Winner.

Not only was the Fair Queen Representative chosen, but the school’s yearly class personalities were announced as well. The event was sponsored by the Fairview High School FCCLA, with all proceeds going towards the club’s projects and activities.

By winning the crown Friday night, Overton becomes Fairview High School’s representative in the 2016 Cullman County Fair Queen Pageant this fall. She, along with seven other high school representatives, one from each public high school in Cullman County, will compete for a $1,500 scholarship award (to be paid to the college in which she enrolls) given by the Fair Association.

The mother of last year’s Fairview High School Fair Queen Representative, Elizabeth Mae Garrison, offered some advice to Overton.

“Remember to embrace the fun of the experience,” said Pricilla Garrison. “It is very stressful, but at the same time it is a huge honor to represent your school and community. Stay true to yourself regardless; it’s very hard having the pressure that you get once you receive that title. There are a lot of hard things that come along with the peer pressure that you don’t expect or the adversities that they face. So Mom, be her cheerleader. Be patient and loving and have fun. Make lots of memories!

“Rebecca, start early and practice, practice, practice, and when you think you have practiced, practice some more,” she smiled. “Be prepared for the unexpected. Make friendships; Lizzie Mae has made some wonderful friendships with the girls from the other schools. That will be the thing she takes away the most, those good friendships that she has.”

During Friday night’s pageant, Fairview High’s 2016 Outstanding Class Personalities were also announced. The winners were:

  • Freshmen Alivia Boyll, Sarah Anne Wood and Riley Carroll
  • Sophomores Kaylee Roberts and Cody Fallin
  • Juniors Molly Gardner and Kyle Hayes
  • Seniors Karson Scott and Logan Yancy
