CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Lions Club held its regularly scheduled meeting at the Cullman County Fairgrounds Monday night and there was plenty for the club to celebrate. In addition to continuing preparations for this year’s county fair, the Lions welcomed a special guest to the meeting to share a charitable contribution. East Elementary student Maggie Bailey, 7, grew vegetables in her own garden and sold them to her neighbors to raise money for Cullman Caring for Kids. Maggie presented $250 to the Lions at Monday night’s meeting, and the club will match Maggie’s donation to the nonprofit.
Lion Milford Parrish introduced Bailey to the club, saying, “You’re going to enjoy this. This gives me hope that there is a future for our nation.”
Bailey was invited to speak and took no time getting right to the heart of the matter.
“So, I grew a garden and then I had a ton on money,” she joked. “Then I gave it to our community.”
The Lions Club presented Bailey with a token of appreciation for her donation and thanked her for her efforts to help her community.
Bailey’s presentation came on the same night the Cullman Lions celebrated their 66th birthday as a Lions Club chapter. The club was granted its charter on this date in 1954.
The Cullman Lions Club is busy preparing for this year’s Cullman County Fair, opening Oct. 8. The Cullman County Fair Parade is this Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
