ADDISON, Ala. — The 4A Good Hope Red Raiders traveled to Winston County Friday night to take on the 2A Addison Bulldogs and what looked like a pretty good match up on paper, turned out to be a well, a rout. Good Hope logged a convincing 49-15 victory over the Dawgs, and it could have been worse.

Addison won the toss and elected to kick to the Raiders. On the first play, diminutive Raider quarterback Tanner “The Kid” Malin hit Jager Burns on a perfect 40-yard pass play down to the Dawg 30-yard line. Six plays later running back Colton “The Fridge” Bagwell powered in from 3-yards out and with the extra point, Good Hope led 7-0.

Addison tried to answer but on the Dawgs first play, quarterback Christian Roberts fumbled the ball, after a nice run, and gave the Raiders excellent field possession at the Addison 34-yard line.

It took Good Hope only three plays before Bagwell, who has to be the largest running back in the county, scored from 1-yard out. The Travis Brock extra point was good and Good Hope led 14-0 before all the fans got into their seats.

Justin “Rocky” Mather tried to keep the Dawgs close as he galloped 48-yards for a Bulldog touchdown. With the two-point conversion Addison had cut the lead to 14-8.

All that did was make the Raiders angry. They came right back with a Malin run from 52-yards out. It seemed like trying to tackle Malin was like trying to tackle the wind. The Brock extra point put the Raiders back up 21-8 as the first quarter came to an end.

The Dawgs tried to respond but the Raider defense was just suffocating on this evening.  A Bulldog punt led to the Raiders taking over at their own 27-yard line. Good Hope then showed that they were the dominant team on this evening as they drove 11-plays for 73 yards, using the run as well as the pass. Malin scampered in from 14-yards out and the extra point made it Raiders 28, Bulldogs 8.

Addison’s Roberts hit Mather for a nice 53-yard seam route for a Dawg touchdown. Eli Howse kicked the extra point and the lead was cut to 28-15 with 5:27 to go in the 2nd quarter.

Good Hope then decided to slam the door on the Bulldogs hopes for the evening as their very balanced offense went on an 8 play 52-yard scoring drive. “Fridge”

Bagwell romped in from 3-yards out for the score. This was the “Fridge’s” third scoring run of the evening.

The Good Hope Defense was in a nasty mood on this evening and forced another Bulldog fumble on the Dawgs’ first play of the drive. Good Hope took over at the Addison 20-yard line with only 1:33 seconds to go in the half.

Raider running back, Ethan “The Flash” Anderson went untouched 20-yards on the very next play for the score. Anderson went through the middle of the Bulldog line through a hole you could have driven a Mack Truck through. The Raider Line was outstanding on this date. With the extra point, the Raider lead was 42-15 and for all intents and purposes this game was over.

The second half consisted of Addison not being able to move the ball and the Raiders putting up one more score, a Conner Stevens 14-yard run. The extra point was good, and the final tally was Good Hope 49, Addison 15. It could have been worse but Good Hope pulled most of their starters with three minutes to go in the third quarter.
