SOMERVILLE, Ala. – Coach Lee Ozmint and his Arab Knights traveled to nearby Somerville to take on Coach Geoff Walters and his Brewer Patriots at James R. Tucker Stadium.  The Knights were looking to build on their exciting win against Southside the week before and the Patriots were looking for their first win of the year.  The Knights dominated the game and came away with a 42-7 victory.

Arab looked to score early after taking the opening kickoff at its own 32-yard line.  After a 17-yard run on the opening play by Mathew Turnage, he capped off the six-play, 68-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.  The big play of the drive was a 34-yard pass from Aidan Cox to Brody McCain.  With 9:42 left in the first quarter Arab led 7-0.

Both teams punted on successive drives and the Patriots started their second drive on their own 32-yard line.  On the sixth play of the drive, the Patriots were facing fourth-and-5.  Arab’s defense stopped Brewer short and took over the ball on downs near midfield.

Arab continued its third drive into the second quarter on the strong running of Turnage.  Cox scored on a 1-yard run and with 10:47 left in the half the Knights extended their lead 14-0.

After a sack by Arab’s Caleb Roe, the Patriots punted, and the Knights took over again with excellent field position near midfield.  After a pass interference against Brewer, on the third play Cox scored his second touchdown on a 22-yard run.  With 6:37 left in the first half Arab’s lead was 21-0.

On the second play of the Patriots’ drive, Arab’s Christian Eaton intercepted the pass from Brewer’s Wyatt Styles and Arab was set up for a short field on Brewer’s 25-yard line.  After a 15-yard pass from Cox to Brody Bradshaw, an unsportsmanlike penalty against the Knights moved the ball back to the 25-yard line.  Two runs later, Turnage scored on an 11-yard touchdown scamper.  With 4:40 left in the second quarter Arab led 28-0.

Arab’s defense continued its strong performance and forced a quick punt by the Patriots.  On the third play of the Knight’s next drive, Turnage scored his third touchdown of the half on a 52-yard run.  With 1:55 left in the half, Arab was up 35-0.

On the following kickoff, the Patriots failed to cover the kick and the Knights took over at Brewer’s 14-yard line.  Aeron Mitchell carried the ball on four straight plays scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run.  That ended the first-half scoring with Arab holding a 42-0 score.

Turnage finished the first half with 163 yards on 17 carries.

The second half was played with a running clock.  No scoring occurred in the third quarter.  The Patriots started their second drive of the second half on their own 7-yard line.  Going deep into the fourth quarter, the Patriots went on a 21-play, 93-yard touchdown drive.  Styles completed the scoring for the game on a 4-yard touchdown run.  The final score was 42-7 with an Arab win.

Arab improves to 5-5.  The Knights host the Pell City Panthers next week.
