CULLMAN, Ala. – For St. Bernard Prep School’s fine arts program, the good news is all-time high enrollment in its beginner band. The bad news is a lack of instruments and music for so many up and coming musicians.

In a notice sent by the school, St. Bernard band director Jonathon Farley wrote:

“We are very excited about the future of the band program here at Saint Bernard Prep! This year we have the largest beginner band class the school has ever had. This wonderful news is met with many needs to ensure the success of both current and future students. Looking ahead, it is necessary to build the school’s instrument inventory and music library to provide the best experience for our students. Below are two ways you can help.

“One way you can help is by donating any instruments you or anyone you know may have that are no longer being used. The instruments do not have to be in perfect condition as we will have all instruments checked by a repair tech and any repairs will be made to bring all of the instruments new life. These instruments will be used for students who may not have the opportunity to acquire instruments in other ways.”

Band members are also selling locally made soy candles through Oct. 2, featuring a collection of scents including “Christmas Eve,” “Christmas Splendor,” “Marshmallow Fireside,” “Pumpkin Apple,” “Teakwood & Mahogany,” “Volcano” and “Winter Candy Apple.” Those who would like to purchase a candle can contact Farley or any band member.

And of course, the band director is happy to accept monetary donations, saying, “Any amount is greatly appreciated and will be used for equipment and music.”
