GULFPORT, Miss. – Cullman High School and Wallace State alumnus Luke Wilson on Sunday afternoon celebrated victory at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Miss. after his first pro win on the Emerald Coast Golf Tour, and in only his third tournament. Wilson was tied at 69 with Casey Fernandez of Durant, Ok. after the first round on Friday, but took a three-shot lead on Saturday, on his way to the Sunday victory.
Proud mother Ashley Wilson told The Tribune, “As a mother you watch your children have dreams their entire life and when you are able to see them become reality for them the feeling is overwhelming. Luke’s dream of not only playing professional golf but be able to win a professional tournament started at a very young age. I can remember him as a toddler, in his golf attire, playing his imaginary golf course in our yard. He has never given up. Luke has only worked hard and practiced night and day.
“I am beyond proud of Luke. I know many more wins are in his future.” Luke Wilson, who as a junior player had numerous local and Junior PGA titles to his credit, joins older brother Blaise Wilson in the Emerald Coast winners’ circle. Blaise Wilson’s latest win came earlier in this same tour season, at Dancing Rabbit in Choctaw, Miss.
