Everyone is disappointed that schools are closing from lack of funds. Students will not be promoted.

Misses Opal Lee and Virginia Grob, students at Judson College, are spending the spring holidays in Cullman.

Miss Gladys Tankersley became the bride of Mr. William Kertez Bailey last Friday evening. The wedding took place at the home of Reverend T.M. Bailey.

Mr. Virgil Smith and Miss Edna Hinton were married last week by the Reverend W. Genn Bartee.

Miss Doris Turner, student at Huntingdon College, is spending the spring holidays in Cullman.

Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Mitchell Oldacre, of Cullman, announce the engagement of their daughter, June, to Luther Edward Creel, Junior, of Athens. The wedding will be on April 25th.

Relatives of Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Moore, Senior, of Tennessee, are visiting this week.

Herman Bittinger has signed with the New York Giants.

Dolores Pylant, Christine O’Rear, Rudolph Higgins and Joseph W. Smith are on the Dean’s List at Florence State Teachers College.

Mrs. Lucinda Josie Chaney, 78, died at her residence on April 1. She is survived by her husband, J.D. Chaney; six sons, Lonnie, Luther, Ollie, William, Chesley and Novie Chaney; one daughter, Mrs. Jewell Davis and one sister, Mrs. Lou White. Pallbearers were Garvis, Dave, Rudolph, Jimmy and Horace Chaney and O’Dean Anderson.

Doctor G.W. Bledsoe has been elected President of the Leeth National Bank to succeed the late J.A. Dunlap.

Mary McMath, daughter of Mrs. Ruby Chaney, wed Fritz Zinsmeister, Junior, on Easter Sunday at Christ English Lutheran Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rice and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rice, of Birmingham, spent the weekend with parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Rice, of Hanceville.

Mrs. Jim Hale, of Piney Grove, died in Birmingham on Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Garland Phillips of Robertsdale spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Harbison, of Bethany.

Mr. and Mrs. Cranston Sinyard of Brushy Pond, spent Saturday night with her grandmother, Mrs. Ema Williams.

Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Humphries have installed a new bathroom in their home at Hulaco.

Junior  Andrews,   Charles  Ray  Butler, J.B. Harris, Wallace Andrews, Boots Smith  and   Pelham  Butler   attended the R.A. Congress in Montgomery.

Mrs. Dennis Chandler was honored with a crystal tea on March 26th hosted by Mrs. J.W. Morgan, Mrs. Melvin Ponder, Miss Carolyn Boyd, Mrs. Emil Dahlke, Mrs. Jack Cutts, Mrs. J.M. Singleton, Betty Ryan, Loxeill Burney, Mrs. R.O. Trimble, Mrs. Paul Fox and Mrs. Calvin Ryan.
