FALKVILLE, Ala. – The Fairview Aggies traveled north just across the Morgan County line to Burl Vest Stadium to play the Falkville Blue Devils in an AHSAA Week 0 Jamboree game.  On an evening with temperatures more like September than late August, both teams looked to start the season off with a win.  Fairview left with a 20-0 victory.

Falkville began the evening with a three-and-out and was forced to punt.  Hampered by an illegal procedure penalty, Fairview returned the favor with its own three-and-out.  The Blue Devils showed brief life on offense getting one first down on their next drive.  The Fairview defense stiffened and stopped Falkville on downs getting the ball on its own 37 yard line.

Fairview’s offense settled down and proceeded to control the ball with an eight-play, 63-yard touchdown drive highlighted by a 33-yard run by Tyler Simmons.  Simmons then completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left in the first quarter.  Elijah Guyton kicked the extra point and the Aggies led 7-0.

After a Falkville punt, Fairview looked to be driving again until Blue Devil Wyatt King intercepted Parker Martin’s pass at the 10-yard line halting an apparent scoring drive.

Just when it looked like the Blue Devils were driving, quarterback Peyton Sallee was sacked by Simmons.  Two plays later on fourth-and-19 Sallee was sacked again by Levi Garner and Fairview took over on downs at the Falkville 43 yard line.

For the next drive, the Aggies returned to the running game and scored their second touchdown on five straight runs.  Once again, it was Simmons scoring from 15 yards out.  The extra point was no good and the first-half scoring was complete as the Aggies led 13-0.

Simmons completed the first half with 118 yards on 14 rushes.  Martin added three rushes for 34 yards to go with his 10 yards passing.

The second half was used by both coaches to give them a chance to evaluate more players and rest their starters.  One of the highlights of the second half was a sack to stop Falkville’s final drive by Braxton Simmons.

Fairview’s biggest play of the second half was the result of a broken play.  On the Aggies’ own 27 yard line, the second play of the drive was a bad snap.  Scrambling to recover the ball, Eli Frost picked up the ball and tried to look for somewhere to run.  Dodging Falkville players, Frost scampered 73 yards for a touchdown.  The successful extra point completed the scoring with a 20-0 Fairview victory.

On the victory, Fairview’s head coach George Redding said, “I was very proud of how we controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.”

Fairview hosts cross-county rival Vinemont next week at Fairview.
