MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Labor (ADOL) on Thursday released the official count for initial unemployment claims filed during the week of July 26 – Aug. 1, 2020.
Statewide, 11,692 initial claims were filed either online or by telephone during this period, down from 17,439 initial claims the previous week. Of those 11,692, 8,873 are COVID-19 related.
In Cullman County, 134 initial claims were filed from July 26-Aug. 1, down from 210 initial claims the previous week and 260 the week before that.

Industry sectors with the greatest number of claims are: Industry Not Available (4,257), Manufacturing (1,438), Retail Trade (1,057), Accommodation and Food Services (1,030), Remediation Services (972) and Health Care and Social Assistance (877).
Jefferson County had the largest number of claims with 1,562.
