CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library System (CCPLS) has wrapped up this year’s Summer Learning Program, “Imagine Your Story,” and Assistant Director Josie Harrington said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic and other events disrupting the “normalcy” of the summer, participation was high.
“We haven’t done the final count, but we had a larger turnout than we had hoped for!” she smiled. “We expected that COVID-19 would really hinder people’s ability and interest in the Summer Learning Program, and we were really pleased to see that the turnout was still good.”
This year’s program saw the introduction of “brag tags,” incentives for children and library patrons to earn after completing activities; Harrington described them as “sort of like keychains, but you can also put them on maybe a necklace chain. They’ve been really popular; a lot of kids like them. There’s lots of themes, so we’re hoping we’ll have some brag tag that will cater to anyone.”
She said, “People can still turn in reading logs and activities and the like to earn the brag tags! We also are considering using them in the future, as well.”
As for what’s coming up this month, Harrington said, “It’ll be a fairly quiet month. We are still maintaining our 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday hours, and we will be continuing our curbside service.”
