FAIRVIEW, Ala. – After racking up big numbers through the air and on the ground for the Aggies last season, junior quarterback Parker Martin has earned an invitation to one of the premier passing academies in the country. Martin was selected to participate in this year’s ‘The Duel’ quarterback competition in Atlanta July 17-19. Martin’s performance under center and some big time plays in the secondary helped lead Fairview back to the postseason for the first time since 2013. Now, Martin has spent a lot of his offseason continuing to work and improve. After participating in a two-day event in Nashville, he received the invite to the QB competition in Atlanta.
Aggies Head Coach George Redding is excited for Parker and this opportunity for him to compete but knows he’ll take advantage of the experience in other ways too.
“We are super excited for Parker. This is a great opportunity for Parker to showcase his skills, but more importantly learn and grow with some of the best kids in the country as well as represent our school on a national level.”
Martin is excited to get to camp and compete with other talented young quarterbacks from across the country and see where he stacks up.
“I went to a two-day camp in Nashville and I guess based on my performance there, they reached out to me and invited me to the competition, ‘The Duel’, and they bring in quarterbacks from across the nation to compete and stuff,” Martin said. “It’ll be a good experience. I’m looking forward to competing against those guys and seeing the best and being around that atmosphere to become a better quarterback and competitor.”
Fairview has been running its summer workout program for the past month and Parker has been happy to work together with his teammates again after an abrupt end to the school year in March.
“It’s been good. We’re getting a lot of work in and everybody seems to be putting in a lot of effort,” Martin said. “It’s just been a good time to finally get together.”
Martin was a standout on both sides of the ball last season, and he’s made efforts to improve in both positions this offseason.
“I’ve just been trying to improve my throwing game and making sure I can hit my targets,” Martin said. “I’ve been working on my footwork and just trying to keep getting better on both sides of the ball.”

“‘The Duel’ is the premier Quarterback Competition for rising star QBs. Youth, Junior High and High School Quarterbacks come from all over the US to showcase their skills while competing against other elite athletes. The Duel is a 2 Day event that features both an intense development phase and an invite-only QB skills competition for rising 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th and 5th graders.
“The Duel is open to any Quarterbacks eager to compete and display their skills against some of the best talent at their grade level in the nation. To qualify a Quarterback can seize (their) chance to receive incredible instruction and earn their invitation at a QB Collective Academy National 3 Day or 2 Day Immersion event.
The Duel scoring is a cumulative total achieved through a comprehensive battery of objective assessments that measures all aspects of a Quarterback’s ability. It includes tests in decision making, speed, strength, stamina, and position specific skills. Scoring is done by age group and each player will be tested throughout the entire two-day competition. Recognition will be awarded to the top 5 finishers in each grade level including the top prize of The Duel National Champion.”
Martin and the Aggies are set to kick off the upcoming season on the road against D.A.R. Friday, August 21.
