Mr. Gene Edward Davis, 83, of Trussville, Alabama passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 13, 2016. He was best known as “Pop Pop” to his family and friends.

He was beloved and admired by all for his gentle spirit and steadfast faith to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

On July 2, 1955 he married JoNell Shelton of Hanceville, AL and was blessed with five children: Lee Allen (dec.), Edward (Denise) Davis of Springville, AL, Cynthia (William) Hammons of El Dorado Springs, Mo., Wayne (Sherry) Davis of Gardendale, AL, and Susan (Ben, dec.) Shelton of Birmingham, AL.

They celebrated 49 years together before she preceded him to heaven in 2005.

In addition to his children, he is survived by seven grandchildren: Jeremiah McMinn, Kala Graves (Bobby), Cameron Davis, Alyssa Hammons, Tiffany (Geoff) Bagi, Emilee (Jeremy) Capps, and Steven Shelton. He has five great grandchildren: Cadence Bagi, Camryn Bagi, Aubri Jean Capps, Colby Capps, and a great granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by brothers, Lee (Mary) Davis, Clair Davis, Dale Davis and sister, Susan Davis Waldman, all of Reading, Pennsylvania; along with nephews, nieces and special friend, Geneva Norton.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 16 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home with interment with military honors at Shelton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery following.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Clay Senior Center or Gardendale Senior Center.
