WEST POINT, Ala. – He still has one more season to play with the Warriors but now West Point standout Aubry Cleghorn knows where he’ll be playing his college ball too. The senior right-hander announced his commitment to play for the UAH Chargers and Head Coach Hunter Royer.
Cleghorn was on his way to another stellar season before the coronavirus pandemic brought the school year to a hault, racking up 43 strikeouts and posting a 2.00 ERA on the mound while batting over .500 at the plate. Aubry was selected to be part of AL.com’s Terrific 20 5A Team in June and earned 5A second team All-State honors after his sophomore season.
West Point Head Coach Drew Bryson is excited to have Cleghorn back on the mound and at the plate for one more season but he’s just as excited to see Aubry take advantage of this opportunity and continue developing at the next level.
“Aubry is a special player and as a program we are proud and excited for him as well as his family on his commitment to UAH. I think its going to be a great fit for him as a player. He’s going to a quality program that will help continue to develop him as a player, but also as a young man, and in return, UAH is getting a pretty special guy that can come in and help them win a lot of games,” Bryson said. “It’s a testament to his work ethic, competitive nature, and drive to push himself to be the best he can be. He’s the kind of guy that gives you a chance to beat anybody when you hand him the ball. We are looking forward to having him back with us for another year to accomplish the goals we’ve set for the 2021 season before he moves on to his collegiate career.
Cleghorn will participate in this year’s Alabama Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Event at Troy University later this month.
