CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Community Development Commission (CCCDC) met and awarded a total of $217,500 in grants Monday night.
The following grant requests were approved:
- First Source for Women – Educational training supplies ($12,000)
- Cullman County Public Library – ADA-compliant door ($12,000)
- Logan Preservation Foundation – Repairs and upgrades to community center ($8,000)
- Walter Community Center – Replace concrete walk, landscaping ($1,500)
- Town of West Point – ADA-compliant accessibility to storm shelter ($12,000)
- Hanceville Library – Lighting and lower ceiling repairs ($10,000)
- Holly Pond High School – Google Expedition Kit ($12,000)
- St. Paul’s Lutheran School – Technology updates, computers/Chromebooks ($12,000)
- Cullman Middle School – SMART boards ($12,000)
- Cullman Regional Medical Center Foundation – New ambulance ($12,000)
- Fairview Volunteer Fire Department – Refurbish boat & equip for water response ($12,000)
- Cullman Area Technology Academy – Chromebooks ($12,000)
- The Foundry Ministries – Worksite vehicle ($12,000)
- The Little Pantry – Non-perishable items ($6,000)
- Hanceville Public Works – Repair and replace culverts ($12,000)
- Brushy Pond Community Center – Upgrades to building ($12,000)
- Cullman Swim and Dive Team – New timing system ($12,000)
- Friends of the Public Library – Non-fiction print and electronic resource materials ($12,000)
- West Point Volunteer Fire Department – Air cylinders for SCBAs ($12,000)
- Battleground Volunteer Fire Department – 16 kw fixed generator and storage racks for turnout gear ($12,000)
CCCDC members are:
- Cherrie Haney – appointed by Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman
- Joe Golden – appointed by Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview
- Bradley Williams – appointed by Rep. Corey Harbison, R- Good Hope
- Josh Speakman – appointed by Rep. Scott Stadthagen, R-Hartselle
- Champ Crocker, chairman – appointed by the legislative delegation
Funding for CCCDC grants comes from taxes- Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in lieu of taxes and beer taxes. Grants are capped at $12,000 and are not issued for more than that amount except under extraordinary circumstances, which must be approved by the legislators.
The CCCDC strives to maintain a $100,000 reserve fund, as advised by the legislators.
