Walk MS: Cullman

CULLMAN – Walk MS is happening in Cullman on March 19 at 9 a.m. The annual walk, which raises funds and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will take place at Heritage Park.

According to Walk MS Marketing and Communications Director Laura Pemberton, hundreds of people are expected to raise $59,815 to stop multiple sclerosis in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever.

“Cullman friends, loved ones and co-workers will team up to change the world for everyone affected by MS. Participants can choose from 1- or 3-mile fully accessible routes. After the walk, there will be live music and activities for the whole family,” Pemberton said.

Walk MS holds events all over the U.S.

“Walk MS is the rallying point for the MS movement, a time and a place for our communities to come together to raise funds and celebrate hope for the future,” said Pemberton. “Funds raised during the walk support programs and services that directly benefit more than 7,000 families living with MS in Alabama and Mississippi.”

As far as the effectiveness and impact Walk MS has had, according to Pemberton, in 2015 alone, more than 315,000 people in nearly 550 locations across the country walked to create a world free of MS, raising nearly $50 million. Since 1988, Walk MS has raised more than $920 million to fund critical research and life-changing services to help people with MS live their best lives.

“Walk MS: Cullman allows us to stand together against a disease that affects so much of our community,” said Andrew Bell, chapter president. “It is truly a privilege to be able to raise awareness and contribute to research efforts that are so dedicated to finding a cure.

“Plus,” he said, “it really is a fun event. Whether you have a personal connection to MS or not, it’s a great way to spend the day with your family. Because of the committed efforts of this community, there is hope for a future free of MS.”
