GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Ultimate Fair, originally scheduled to be in Good Hope in April, was canceled due to COVID-19. At Monday night’s meeting of the Good Hope City Council, however, Mayor Jerry Bartlett said the fair could go on in July.

The council is waiting for a detailed plan from Tom Pearson with Ultimate Fair on how he will implement state health recommendations, and Pearson said he has received clearance from the governor’s office for the event.

Said Bartlett, “The governor’s legal counsel has told him they see no problem as long as he maintains his social distancing, has wash stations and takes temperatures as they come in.”

The council requested a written plan of procedures prior to final approval. Pearson agreed to provide the plan at the next council meeting June 22.

Members of the Saints Motorcycle Club attended Monday’s meeting to invite everyone to come out to their charity ride this Saturday.

Saints MC member Alex Jones explained, “This Saturday is our annual Miracle League Ride. That’s where we raise funds to pay registrations for the special needs children to play at the Miracle League here in Cullman.”

The event starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Cullman Elks Lodge, with kickstands up at 11 a.m.

Riders will travel to the Field of Miracles. They will leave from the Cullman Elks Lodge around 11 a.m. and will pass by the Field of Miracles before heading out of town.

Said Jones, “We are going to ride through so they can see all the bikes and stuff.”

Kelly Pulliam of Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism’s Therapeutic Recreation program told The Tribune last week, “Friends of the Miracle League raising the funds has allowed all Miracle League players to play for free during the spring season and sometimes the fall, too. Many families are now able to sign up since the registration fees are already paid for by the group. We have definitely seen an increase in number of players over the years, and I believe it’s because of the efforts of the Friends of the Miracle League. They mean everything to the Miracle League and we can’t wait to cheer for the Saints MC of Cullman County as they drive by all of us.”

Miracle League athletes are encouraged to wear their sports uniforms and bring “thank you” signs to show the riders. Cars should be at the field by 10:45, and families should remain in their cars.

The ride will conclude in Danville.

Grady Parsons, president of Living Water Solutions, addressed the council about new Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) requirements.

He said, “Right now, Good Hope is a grade two, which determines the amount of time that certified operators have to spend with the State.”

The City will need to fill out the reapplication form provided by ADEM for reclassification purposes.

Parsons recommended the City look into creating an extended plan for up to five to 10 years to be prepared for potential growth. The council approved $7,500 for Living Waters to prepare the application and begin creating a short-term and long-range plan for the City’s water system.
