WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Town Council on Monday night had a short meeting with a light agenda.
The council approved the Town’s Municipal Water Pollution Report conducted by Living Water Services. The report is a yearly requirement that must be submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
The council also voted to leave the current qualifying fees unchanged for those running for council or mayor in the Aug. 25, 2020 Municipal Election. The fee for council candidates will remain at $10 and $25 for mayoral candidates.
Mayor Gerald Schafer asked the council to begin thinking about the new town sign to be placed along Alabama Highway 157. The council recently approved the placement of new brick signs including one in front of town hall.
Schafer also asked the council to be considering the need for repairs to the flumes around town hall and the ball park. Recent rains have left the water flumes cracked and in disrepair.
Town Clerk Joann Jones was given approval to begin archiving town council meeting minutes going back to the early 1970s. Money was allocated in this year’s budget for the project.
The next West Point Town Council meeting will be held June 18 at 6 p.m.
