TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama senior infielder Kolby Robinson was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Baseball Team, the organization announced Thursday.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances. Robinson now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
A human performance exercise science major, Robinson graduated from the University in May with a 3.968 cumulative grade-point average. In two years at the Capstone, he was named to both the President’s and Dean’s List. Robinson’s first season with the Crimson Tide in 2019 saw the Cullman, Ala., native earn a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, an accomplishment which he is also on-pace to achieve in the spring of 2020.
A standout in both the classroom and on the diamond, Robinson spent the last two seasons as Alabama’s everyday starter at shortstop, starting 69 games while playing in 71 contests. He batted .284 with eight doubles and a triple for his career while adding 29 RBI, 34 runs, 28 walks and eight stolen bases. Defensively, the shortstop helped the Crimson Tide set the program’s all-time mark for fielding percentage in 2019 and had not committed an error through his 16 games of action in 2020.
Robinson is one of 14 Crimson Tide baseball players to earn all-district recognition and the first since Brett Whitaker in 2011. In all, Alabama has had nine players earn Academic All-America honors since 1972, including first-team honorees Dr. Jeff Laubenthal (1993), Lance Cormier (2002) and Emeel Salem (2006, 2007).
The senior shortstop is one of nine Alabama student-athletes to earn a place on CoSIDA Academic All-District IV squads so far this year, joining Landon Dickerson (football), Krystal Goodman (softball), Bailey Hemphill (softball), Jordan Lewis (women’s basketball), Nealy Martin (soccer), Alex Plavin (soccer), Kaylee Tow (softball) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (football). Martin and Plavin went on to earn Academic All-America honors this fall, while Hemphill and Tow earned the honor last season.
