GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The City of Good Hope took a step toward a return to normal Monday night at its first council meeting open to the public since the state’s Stay at Home Order went into effect in March. The meeting was short due to a light agenda, but spirits were high as the council met and attended to business.

The council approved a $2,000 donation to Cullman Caring for Kids to help during the COVID-19 crisis.

Councilwoman Susan Eller said, “I know there’s a lot of people who need (help) during this time (and) maybe we could do a little extra at this time for Cullman Caring for Kids.”

Mayor Jerry Bartlett added, “I know that we do have a lot of people from this area who go up there and I just think that (Director) Javon (Daniel) and his staff do a fabulous job.”

Eller also urged the citizens of Good Hope to complete the 2020 Census. The City has begun having drawings from area businesses as incentives. As of Sunday, Good Hope has the highest percentage response rate in the county at 64%. Eller said there are still hopes of having community events in the near future to help people with registering.

To enter into the drawings for prizes, citizens are asked to send screenshots of their census registration confirmations and screenshots of the listed household members counted (each will be entered into the drawings) to admin@goodhopeal.com.
