JOPPA, Ala. – Corinth Baptist Church recently debuted the Corinth Community Cupboard, a food pantry for people in Baileyton, Joppa and Arab who may need extra help. The pantry is a freestanding structure, set up where people can simply drive or walk up and take what they need. People can also leave non-perishable food donations in the pantry.

The food pantry is located on the church’s property at 15698 Alabama Highway 69, Joppa, AL 35087.

Corinth Baptist Church Pastor Josh Hogland shared, “The Corinth Baptist food pantry opened officially in late February. This is the second pantry I have had the pleasure of being a part of, along with the builders Joe and Cindy Alverson.”

On donations, he noted, “We have had many generous donors and we accept any non-perishable items, books, toiletries and even have people that donate cash. We do the shopping for them and provide them with a receipt.”

When asked if there’s been an impact on the pantry due to the pandemic, Hogland answered, “This pandemic has definitely caused an increase in the use of the food pantry. Where we were spending about $750 per month, we now are spending about $1,800 per month. The awesome part is that all money has been donated.”

The pastor continued, “We just want to be able to help our community, and with the food pantry it allows us to provide for those people and help them have anonymity.”

He added, “You can call me directly at 256-615-9658. This is also the number people can call to reach out to us about their needs. We have a wonderful mission team and provide many opportunities for those in need. We have a shopping and grocery delivery team, a community cleanup team and many more.”
