CULLMAN, Ala. – Patrons may not be able to visit the Cullman County Public Library System (CCPLS) branches in person right now, but the CCPLS has other resources to offer during this time.

“We do still have some services for our users!” exclaimed CCPLS Assistant Director Josie Harrington. “These resources require internet access, and I know not everyone has that at this time. The Cullman County Public Library still has public Wi-Fi available if you visit (though you would have to stay outside while we are closed, of course). The password to that wi-fi is posted on our doors.”

The main branch of the CCPLS is located at 200 Clark St. NE, Cullman, AL 35055.

She added, “If you’ve got a library card that is expired, feel free to call us at 256-734-2720; that number has been forwarded so we can still answer calls. It’s also possible to reach out to us through Facebook where we will try to answer questions and solve problems as well.”

Harrington also offered the following resources:

Camellia Net, “Alabama’s Digital Library” (Free as long as you have a library card)

“Camellia Net offers digital materials (eBooks, magazines, audiobooks and videos) for free so long as you have a library card,” she said. “You will need internet access and a device to use: a Kindle, tablet, mobile phone, computer, etc. Camellia Net also has an app, OverDrive, that you can use. You can also use the app Libby with Camellia Net.”

Camellia Net is available through the CCPLS website www.ccpls.com or https://camellia.overdrive.com/.

Alabama Virtual Library (AVL)

“I know the K-12 schools are closed at the time being, but should anyone need access to educational material such as online databases, magazines, journals, newspaper articles, etc. for research, studies, or entertainment there is also AVL, or The Alabama Virtual Library,” said Harrington. “To access AVL, you don’t need an AVL account, you simply need to be in Alabama. AVL uses geolocation technology to determine whether a device is located in Alabama. If it is, then the user is automatically logged in to use AVL resources.”

The AVL can be accessed through the CCPLS website or www.avl.lib.al.us/.

Harrington hinted at a new outdoor system the library is developing, sharing, “Finally, though it isn’t ready yet, we are looking to implement an outdoor locker system so that materials can still be checked out and picked up without actually having to come inside the library. So, hopefully that will be up and running soon!”
