In the last article I wrote about our little great-grandson Alder. I told of some of his natural abilities. Besides his abilities as a swift runner and expert climber, he is a thinker. He can figure things out.

It seems our little fellow has a bottomless pit for a stomach. When he visits our house, he eats very often. He has yogurt. Then he has a few grapes and tops them off with animal crackers. In our kitchen we have a kitchen stool that he can stand on and it gives him access to a low shelf where some of the goodies are, and it’s not very long before he starts eating something else. He may weigh l00 pounds by the time he is 2 years old.

A few days ago, he was at his grandmother’s house and he was on his eating binge. He had some yogurt and some ice cream. In a little while he went to the refrigerator and pulled the freezer drawer open and got the ice cream bucket out. His grandmother (Robin) asked him if he wanted some more ice cream. Since he doesn’t talk yet, he just shook his head no and Robin put the ice cream back in the freezer.

Alder laid down in the floor and cried for a few minutes. Then Robin asked him again if he wanted some yogurt and he shook his head no. She asked him once more if he wanted some ice cream and he shook his head no.

Suddenly Alder jumped up and ran to the freezer and pulled the ice cream bucket out and carried it over to the front of the kitchen counter and stepped up on it and tried to climb up on the kitchen counter. Then Robin remembered some Corn Puffs that she had in the cabinet and she got them down for him. That was what he wanted, and his tears turned to a smile. A hungry boy can think of a way to get what he wants.
