VINEMONT, Al. — Holly Pond traveled to take on Vinemont Saturday as both teams looked to bounce back from losses but it was the Lady Broncos who went home with a 7-3 win thanks in large part to a 3-run bomb off the bat of Kylie Ann Perkins that gave them an early lead. The Lady Eagles managed to get runs on the board throughout the day but not enough to keep pace with the Lady Broncos.

After both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings, Holly Pond struck first in the third. Aubrey Armstrong got things started with a one-out double, Kaylee Stallings reached on a Vinemont error and Perkins blasted one over the center field fence to give the Lady Broncos a 3-0 lead. Singles by Brooklyn Knott and Berkley Gable got things started for the Lady Eagles in their half of the inning and Mackenzie Lawrence hit an RBI groundout to make it a 2-run game going into the fourth.

Holly Pond created even more separation in the fourth inning. Rebecca Bell drew a leadoff walk and Samantha Giles reached on a bunt single. Taylor Simmons hit an RBI single to bring home Bell and Giles and Simmons scored on a pair of Vinemont errors to make it a 6-1 game. The Lady Eagles added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Knott scored on a Lawrence RBI single to cut the deficit to four, but the Lady Broncos got the run back in the sixth when Stallings scored on a passed ball.

Angela Harris hit an RBI single for Vinemont to make it 7-3, but Emma Spitzer got Rylie Perkins to line out to end the game and Holly Pond held on to win it 7-3.

Perkins finished with one hit and three RBIs for Holly Pond (4-4-1). Stallings added a pair of hits and an RBI and Simmons ended up with a hit and an RBI in the win. Lawrence finished with two hits and two RBIs for Vinemont (0-9). Harris added a pair of hits and an RBI and Knott and Maci Smith each ended up with a pair of hits.

The Lady Broncos will travel to take on Cold Springs Tuesday, while the Lady Eagles travel to New Hope Monday. It will be the last games for both teams before schools across the state go on hiatus Wednesday.

Decatur Heritage 11 – Fairview 1 (varsity baseball)

It was all Decatur Heritage as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead over Fairview, but a Levi Garner RBI single in the sixth inning got the Aggies on the scoreboard. Decatur Heritage countered with four runs in their half of the sixth as they run-ruled Fairview, 11-1.

Garner finished with a hit and an RBI for the Aggies. Oakley Mullican, Caden Jennings and Jack Brown each added a hit in the contest. Fairview (2-3) will host Priceville Tuesday in the final game of the month before schools go on hiatus Wednesday.

Sylvania 8 – Holly Pond 1 (varsity boys soccer) – Sylvania 10 – Holly Pond 0 (varsity girls soccer)

The Broncos and Lady Broncos hosted Sylvania for a pair of varsity matchups Saturday afternoon but unfortunately for the home crowd, the Rams and Lady Rams went home with a pair of wins. The Lady Rams knocked off Holly Pond 10-0 and the Broncos fell to Sylvania in Saturday’s boys game 8-1.

Yesterday’s was the last game for the Broncos before schools across the state close Wednesday but the Lady Broncos are scheduled to travel to St. Bernard Tuesday night.
