GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After splitting a pair of games Saturday, Fairview traveled to take on Good Hope in its area opener. A pitcher’s duel through five innings quickly turned into an offensive outburst from the Lady Aggies as they pulled away late to defeat the Lady Raiders 10-2.

Fairview struck first to start the game. Alyssa Wooten led off the game with a single and Katie Ball later drew a one-out walk to put a pair of runners on the bases. Allyson Wooten hit an RBI single to center field to give the Lady Aggies a 1-0 lead, but Good Hope countered in their half of the inning with an RBI single from Angelina Flanigan that tied the game at one.

After a scoreless second inning, Fairview broke the tie in the third when Ball blasted a solo home run over the center field fence. The Lady Raiders looked to counter in their half of the inning with runners on second and third and no outs, but Ball was able to get out of the inning without any damage. Good Hope got another rally going in the fifth inning with two more runners on, but Ball got a groundout and a strikeout to end the inning unscathed once again.

The sixth inning saw the Lady Aggies create some distance between them and the Lady Raiders. Ball drew a leadoff walk and Allyson Wooten drove her in with a double to left field to make it a 3-1 game. After a fielding error by Good Hope, Kaitlyn Benson and Kyleigh Aleman added an RBI double and RBI single respectively to increased their lead to four.

Fairview blew the game wide open in the seventh inning with just after a hit batter loaded the bases for the Lady Aggies. Kennedy Johnson scored on a Good Hope error and Aleman and Emma Garcia followed that up with back-to-back 2-run doubles to make it 10-1. The Lady Raiders added a run in their half of the seventh on a Herring RBI groundout and looked for more, but Ball struck out Bailey Keef to end the game and Fairview (7-3) wound up winning its area opener 10-2.

Aleman led the way for the Lady Aggies with two hits and three RBIs. Allyson Wooten (two hits) and Garcia (one hit) each finished with a pair of RBIs and Benson and Ball each added a hit and an RBI in the contest. Ball gave up just four hits and two unearned runs, walked three and struck out six in a complete game effort. For Good Hope (7-5), Sidnie English finished with a hit and an RBI while Flanigan, Rebecca Norris and Abby Neighbors each collected a hit in the contest.

Fairview will host Holly Pond Tuesday while Good Hope travels to take on the Lady Broncos Thursday.
